Development of Standards and Requirements
DTB can work with your staff to develop test requirements, test plans or standards to qualify components. Our engineering staff is familiar with what damages a component, how to measure the damage, and what portions of an environment can be neglected and still have an accurate and representative test.
An example of this type of analysis was for a diesel engine and hydraulic power unit life test in which a 12 year operational life was consolidated to a 10 month test program. By reviewing real world operational data, DTB engineers were able to eliminate the non-damaging portions of the originally conceived test and greatly reduce the testing time required.
Turbocharged Diesel Engine and Hydraulic Power Unit Accelerated life Test
Another area that DTB is currently doing testing on is improved methodologies for the determination of shelf life by accelerated life testing. The calibration of accelerated test time to real world exposure can be addressed by understanding the degradation mechanisms that a particular item undergoes. DTB has conducted programs to determine the following:
- Battery Shelf Life
- Grease Shelf Life
- O ring shelf life
- Ballistic Armor Performance Degradation
